I am so intrigued as to what these mean within the context of the stories! I hadn't heard of this series, but it certainly does sound like something I'd enjoy. I'll have to look further into it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Lauren, and that's awesome to hear you think this author has gotten stronger over time. :)Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652084782125897918.post-31275951407855566932013-12-03T16:13:18.782-05:002013-12-03T16:13:18.782-05:00I really loved When the Sea is Rising Red and didn...I really loved When the Sea is Rising Red and didn't realize there was a sequel until this review. It's so atypical, but I think that's what made it work so well for me...it really just defied the norm, and that's what I was looking for. Wonderful reviews, Lauren! When I read your review I thought that it was a book set for release next year, but I'm glad that this is not the case. The world created by Hellisen I find highly appealing and although love triangles don't bug me that much I am intrigued in finding out why this one is so different. Gorgeous review Lauren. I will be back to read the one for House of Sand and Secrets when I've read the first book! A few months ago, I purchased the book from Thrift Books, but for some reason or another, I still haven't picked it up to read. Before today, I didn't know WtSiRR was the first book in a planned series. It's wonderful both you and Heather reviewed the sequel on the same day (without planning it) and had such positive experiences with it! I really need to start on this series and SOON! I'm very interested in Felicita's character development and the complicated love triangle you speak of; it sounds non-traditional and almost original. Can't wait to find out more! Great reviews, Lauren!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12274355208601978550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652084782125897918.post-5973242553890964972013-12-02T10:08:01.981-05:002013-12-02T10:08:01.981-05:00Felicita sounds like a really tricky character in ...Felicita sounds like a really tricky character in the first book Lauren, I get the feeling she would frustrate me just as much as she did you at times. I"m so glad to see she grows in the second book and becomes more self-aware, and I'm really excited you were such a fan of the romance. Normally the second book is where whatever romance was in the first book falls completely apart, so it makes me happy that after a tough beginning with them, they end up stronger than ever in this one! Fabulous reviews:)Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14199685365145765394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652084782125897918.post-31714339718941382502013-12-02T09:32:58.180-05:002013-12-02T09:32:58.180-05:00Love that we reviewed HOSAS on the same day--and d...Love that we reviewed HOSAS on the same day--and didn't even plan it that way! Wonderful WTSIRR review and my fave part of your HOSAS review is this:

"What I like about Cat Hellisen's stories is that she has created a complex and rich fantasy world with a detailed society and political climate, and stuck a very human, personal story about one girl within it. "

As usual you summed it up PERFECTLY. It's a much more mature read and I loved that. The character growth was wonderful and that romance--gosh, it's going down as one of my all time favorites for sure:)

I really, really hope that more people pick this series up because it is SO deserving. Definitely one of my top reads this year. So happy you connected with it as well:)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026974627724672435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652084782125897918.post-36345338014615629672013-12-02T08:51:41.283-05:002013-12-02T08:51:41.283-05:00This one's been hovering on the maybe pile for...This one's been hovering on the maybe pile for quite a long time...and I think it might remain there (how's that for decisiveness!). I love that the character grows and develops as she navigates her world but I'm still not sure about the romance thing. It sounds exactly like my kind of read and I adore a slow-burn romance like the one mentioned in HoSaS. I'm a little surprised that the covers are so poorly matched, but am glad the stories are. Lovely review, as always, Lauren! :)Keertanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01071392026876644282noreply@blogger.com
