Series: All the Stars and Teeth #1/2

Book Description: Set in a kingdom where danger lurks beneath the sea, mermaids seek vengeance with song, and magic is a choice, Adalyn Grace’s All the Stars and Teeth is a thrilling fantasy for fans of Stephanie Garber’s Caraval and Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series.

She will reign.

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer—the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous soul magic.

When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic.

But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder—and more peril—than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected… or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.

All the reasons I loved this fierce fantasy (or just 3):
All the Stars and Teeth was my first read of 2020 and is going to remain one of my favorites of the year. Here are 3 reasons I loved this story:

1) Amora:
I loved Amora right from the start. This girl knows who she is and where she's going. She's got a powerful and dangerous magic and is preparing to take over as ruler of her land. But when things go terribly wrong, she keeps moving forward. Amora is fierce and sure of herself, but she's not afraid to make mistakes, or learn and grow from her experiences. I had the best time following her adventures through this book and discovering more of her world along with her.

2) Amore: You guys all know that I love a good romance. Can we say swoon? First of all, Bastian is a fantastic character in his own right, but I loved the banter and chemistry he had with Amora right from the start. They also make a great team and compliment each other well. It was so much fun watching these two get to know each other and discover their feelings along the way.

3) Adventure:
Princesses, pirates, mermaids, fascinating magic, all in a high-stakes, high-seas adventure, this book has so many great fantasy elements. I was completely hooked to this story and couldn't wait to find out what these characters discovered next. But it's not all fun. Amora is on the run, and also on a dangerous mission. She faces monsters and danger and deceit along the way.

This book is out now!

Love Triangle Factor: None. (Highlight) Amora has a soon to be fiancĂ© who is part of this book. She is clear the whole time that she doesn't love him (it's for political reasons).
Cliffhanger Scale: Low. This is a duet so there is more to come but it ends at a breaking point.
