Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2013

Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2013

Looking back to what I've read this year, these are the books that stand out to me as my favorites. Do you ever find that over time, you sometimes love books you've read in the past MORE and sometimes LESS? These all fall into the MORE category! I've also reviewed all of them. Click on the titles to discover my thoughts on each book. In no particular order:

1) Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

  2) The Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson
The Girl of Fire and Thorns, The Crown of Embers, The Bitter Kingdom

3) Wild Awake by Hilary T. Smith

4) Lovely, Dark and Deep by Amy McNamara

5) Written in Red by Anne Bishop

6) Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

7) Just One Day by Gayle Forman

8) Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

9) Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers

10) Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

BONUS: Most disappointing books based on my expectations:

Boundless by Cynthia Hand and The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson.

Both of these books still make me want to break out in tears when I think about them. The Madness Underneath was only the second book in a series, so there's still a very slight hope for that one to turn itself around.

  1. OH no, You didn't like Boundless. It's on my summer TBR- I've been dying to read it. Scarlet also made my list and I have seen Just One Day on SO many lists that I'm kicking myself for it still being unread on my shelf.

    Great list.

  3. I haven't read Boundless yet. I'm hoping to read it this summer. I'm sad to read you didn't like it. I must remember not to hype it up before I read it. Great list.

  7. Love your bonus there at the end. I was also thoroughly disappointed with The Madness Underneath. Don't like where that went and won't read the next book.

Yay for The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy! The Bitter Kingdom is such a perfect ending.

  8. So many of these are sitting on my shelf, unread, still! Or at least the first book if it is a series. I promised myself Shadow and Bone would be a must for the summer so I'm pretty sure I'll be rushing out to grab the sequel right after. Lovely, Dark and Deep is one I'd love to read too. Great list! I so want to go grab all of these from my shelf and start them! :)

  10. You've read The Bitter Kingdom Lauren! LUCKY YOU! I cannot wait for that one, I absolutely adore that series. It started out a little rocky for me, but I was madly in love with it by the end of book one and I fell even more in love with book 2. I loved Scarlet and Siege & Storm as well. SO GOOD!!!!

  11. I pretty much agree with everything on this list. And I've read all but two, I think. And I've been eyeing the audio for Written in Red, so I'm glad to see it on this list. Means it's a must-buy now. :)

  12. Wilde Awake, Through the Evernight, Siege and Storm -- they've all been so welcomed by readers. I have the first two, but not the third since I've yet to read Shadow and Bone which I'll most likely dive into next month:) I'm loving CP2 so far and I think I'll be able to finish it tonight, yay!

  13. ITA about The Madness Underneath. I was so disappointed. Scarlet and Dark Triumph ended up on my list too. And I have another 5 on your list waiting TBR. This is the first list I've seen with Lovely, Dark, and Deep on it. I have it, I just need to find the time to read it.

I still need to read Through the Ever Night & Clockwork Princess. I'm going to read CP as part of the series challenge, so SOON!

  19. Ha! I love that you added most disappointing books, lol. I agree with you on Clockwork Princess and Just One Day. They both made my list as well. All the others I must get to soon!! SOON, LAUREN!

  20. HAHAHAHA. I love you. Mostly because we have the SAME MOST DISAPPOINTING BOOKS. Also, every one of the ones on your list that I've read would be in my top 10 as well.

  21. I am so excited to read The Crown of Embers and The Bitter Kingdom soon; I know that I'll love them both! So many sequels listed here that I have yet to read: Siege and Storm, Scarlet, Dark Triumph. Although I suppose our thoughts differ slightly on Clockwork Princess.
Aw, your most disappointing books! Kind of funny, but also sad. I hate it when books don't work out the way we know they should.

  22. Fantastic list! Scarlet, Just One Day, Through the Ever Night, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, Wild Awake, Siege & Storm, and Dark Triumph are all some of my favorites from the past year as well. Wonderful Top Ten, Lauren, and here's to many more wonderful books for the rest of the year! :D

  23. You've already read the entire The Fire and Thorns trilogy?! I still need to read the last book! Great list!

  24. Scarlet was amazing! And I need to get to Dark Triumph and Siege and Storm!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I REALLY need to read the last 5 books on your list! So not patiently awaiting my replacement copy of Siege and Storm (first got lost in the mail... :( )

And I'm so happy you loved The Girl of Fire and Thorns series so much!! I keep trying to get people to read them because these books are just AWESOME!

  26. Ok, I didn't do one of these posts, but if I had, it would be almost identical to yours! Except for Written in Red and Lovely Dark and Deep, which I haven't read yet. I have the second one, so I need to move that up my TBR pile. Must procure a copy of Written in Red too. Seriously fab list!

And I LOVE that you included your disappointments. Those are equally important! Totally agree with you on The Madness Underneath, though I hold out hope for Maureen making it up to us in book three. :-)

  27. I was SO disappointed by Boundless, too! Love Scarlet, Just One Day, Siege and Storm and Dark Triumph!
